Try calling Best Buy, they are probably the less expensive one. High end video store also does this, and have more experience in installing high end system through out the whole house but they are not cheap. Hope this will help you out.

Ok looking for a Home Theatre for my hdtv, hdmi compatability. But if I buy a home theatre with hdmi and connect it to the tv through component, will there be much of a difference if it where the hdmi version? Just looking towards the sound quality since my ps3 can’t support the sound on the regular tv speakers.

HDMI is a single cable (looks like a giant USB cable) that will transmit both Hi-def video content up to 1080p and true surround sound. Component HD cables transmit video up to 1080i, so you won;t notice much of a difference in video quality (none if your tv can’t display 1080p). With component HD, you will need to decide on an audio connection.

Your PS3 has an hdmi out so that would solve all your problems if your receiver has an HDMI INPUT. You plug the ps3 into the receiver via HDMI, plug the receiver to the tv using component and you should be good to go.

Other audio options include Digital Optical or plain old RCA(white/red) cables.

Btw, those RCA cables SHOULD work on just about any setup…it will only be stereo but it should work. Are you using that with your current setup?

Some of you may have seen a very quaint little series from back in the early 80s called “The Good Life” starring Penelope Keith, Felicity Kendall and Paul Eddington.                                    

For those of you who are familiar, there is one episode where Keith rather fancies herself as a potential Tony-award winning actress and wins the lead in the local production of “The Sound of Music”.

  After seeing her performance, we see Eddington and Kendall staggering in looking quite shell-shocked and reaching for the Scotch.

Eddington pauses in wonder and asks “Why did she sing “Maria”?” to which Kendall responds, “Because that was the name of her character…”

There is another pause as Eddington takes a full swig from the bottle before murmuring incredulously, “But the song is from “West Side Story“!”

The reason I am bringing  this little gem to your attention, is because I was ambushed last night into going to dinner with some of the man of the manor’s friends.  I say “ambushed” because this all came about in a very clever way, on his part.

Imagine sitting down after a hard day’s work and finding yourself fully engrossed in something fascinating…say, “Entertainment Tonight”. Let’s also picture that in the midst of admiring what George Clooney is wearing (or not wearing) beachside at his Malibu home, you become aware of an annoying little buzz in your left ear. You realise after swatting at it for a few minutes, that it is actually your husband calling something at you from the doorway.

“What? Uh huh..Ok! Yep..No worries…uh huh” you fire back, anxious to be rid of the disruption and back to your Wednesday-night perving pleasure.

Now, fast forward six weeks….to the day. You stagger home from work only to discover that you wholeheartedly agreed to have dinner with his friends who live an hour away and have a fondness for steaks so well-done you could lace them up and wear them as hiking boots.

To be fair, the night was quite reasonable. The friends in question are theatre buddies of my husband, and after a few, several (ok…four bottles) of good merlot, the talk inevitably turned to on-stage “moments”.

I used to tread the boards myself for years. I embarked on my drama adventures as early as six when I was cast as “Willy Wonka” in my primary school production of “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory”. It was a lot of fun, and even though Willy Wonka was the wrong gender and often lost and overshadowed by much taller and gangly Ooompah Loompahs whose voices broke every time they hit the high note, it gave me a taste for the stage.

The beauty of live theatre is its delicious unpredictability.

It is one thing to shoot a movie scene over and over until it’s perfect, in the director’s eyes – but acting out a scene live is always fraught with the possibility that something…something..is going fuck up in the most magnificent way.  After 30 years of ducking in and out of the dressing rooms, there are a couple of memorable incidents that spring to mind.

During my first Shakespearean effort, “Richard III” (a big call for a small local theatre group in Far North Queensland), the director insisted that we acquire a real stallion for the occasion. After all, we couldn’t have our little despotic humpback striding around the stage on a hobby-horse.

After much searching we did find a suitable specimen… a geriatric dobbin called “Banjo”. 

“Banjo” seemed to fit the bill perfectly. He was old and docile, and with a little push from half of the cast, he never missed his cue.

It was only during the last show of the run that “Banjo” decided he wasn’t getting the accolades he so surely deserved.

I was in the green room watching the climactic scene where Richard calls out passionately, “A Horse! A Horse! My Kingdom for a horse!”…..when I heard the audience roar with laughter.

Given that this was one of the more serious scenes of the play, I had to wonder why the crowd was clearly wetting themselves with mirth.

On closer inspection, I realised that unbeknownst to the actor, “Banjo”, who had been so complacent and accommodating throughout the run, was sporting possibly the biggest equine hard-on I (and subsequently the viewing audience) had ever seen.

It is safe to say, that when the curtain went down, the audience were on their feet screaming for more; however “Banjo” wasn’t pole-dancing for anyone.

Another unforgettable instance was more recent.  The man of the manor and myself decided we would risk the divorce courts and actually participate in a play together – “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof”

The boy was playing the lead role of “Big Daddy” and I was given the part of his blonde, bitchy and heavily pregnant daughter-in-law “Mae” (and yes, the local newspapers had a field day with that one, thank you very much).                                            ..

In one scene, “Big Daddy” and his injured son “Brick” have a colossal argument. Brick is on crutches and the actor playing the role slammed the crutch against the floor on a nightly basis in order to show “Big Daddy” just how miffed he was.

One night, close to the end of the season, we had a large group of elderly people attending from the local nursing Home. Rather like “Banjo”, these people were docile and easy to please. During the heated argument scene, “Brick” slammed his crutch against the floor; only this time, the crutch flew out of his hand, bounced along the stage and into the audience, hitting a little old lady fairly and squarely between the eyes.

Here was our dilemma.

Did we stop production to go and take this (now unconscious) woman’s pulse? Given that she was at least 102….in the shade…the argument could have been made that she was so bloody sick of hearing Australian actors trying to pull off a Southern accent (which by all accounts sounded like a paddle of ruptured ducks) that she simply passed on to greener pastures during Act III.

Or…did we proceed with the show and tackle the problem of trying to get a new crutch on stage for our now “crutch-less” leading actor?

Our sage stage manager went with option B.

Now, just picture if you will……..

You are watching a play and the lead actor is flailing around on the floor, having just hurled his crutch at the unsuspecting audience. Ambulances are screaming outside and, quite frankly, the old biddy behind you has a golf-ball-sized lump on her forehead and is turning decidedly blue around the gills.

Miraculously, from the left side of the stage, you espy what seems to be a magical, levitating crutch emerging from thin air, and into the hands of said writhing thespian on floor

You may have returned home, in a somewhat shell-shocked state…reaching for the Scotch bottle.

I have not had the opportunity to grace the stage for some time. Life and other irritations seem to be getting in the way.  Besides, it is a known fact that one should avoid working with small children or animals….

 However, I woke up groggily this morning with a note next to the table from my host.

It appears that I have been volunteered to audition for their upcoming production….

Sometimes you just get stuck for ideas. Your mind is a blank. It makes it even harder to come up with the goods if your present or future business rests on your ideas. A little help and inspiration for a new article, a new product, or a completely new business wouldn’t go amiss in these circumstances.

The purpose of the ideas in this series of articles is to get your brain thinking. The ideas may seem a bit crazy and unrealistic – almost too simple. But…. the intention is for these ideas to act as a trigger, making you say something like: “That idea’s ridiculous, but if I change it around a bit I could…” So, use one or more of these ideas as your starting point and brainstorm your way to a new opportunity.

1. Begin an enterprise which sells garden gates door to door. On your sales trips, take with you a smart folder which has a large photograph of each gate you are selling. Provide potential customers with a price which includes installation. Your target houses should be easy to spot!

2. Start a home based computer bureau. There are hundreds of business computer programs available such as wages, record files and accounts. Buy and use these programs to provide a computer service to local businesses.

3. Set up a business which promotes the making of lampshades. Lampshade making can be sold as either, an interesting new hobby, or a business opportunity. Produce a mail order catalogue of lampshade making equipment and supplies. Advertise your catalogue in craft magazines.

4. Begin a computerised dating service. Operate this service like a traditional dating service, but hold all your records on a computer and use the computer to aid your search for compatible partners. Have leaflets about your service printed and place them at shops in your area.

5. Be a sleep consultant. Large numbers of people have difficulty in sleeping at night. This is not usually a medical problem, but can be corrected by using a suitable method or attitude of mind. Provide people in your area with confidential advice about how to sleep soundly.

6. Start a venture which designs and manufactures portable theatrical footlights. Potential buyers of these footlights include: amateur theatre and dance groups, pop and rock groups, children’s entertainers, variety entertainers, nightclubs and mobile disc jockeys.

7. Create an enterprise which rents computers to private and Business users. The computers you rent out might be new and second hand. Also rent out peripherals such as printers, stands and feeders. Use local media to inform people about your hire service.

8. Buy original computer games programs from home computer enthusiasts. Find these programs by advertising in computing magazines. Produce a compilation of the programs on a master tape. Have copies of this master tape duplicated on cassettes and sell from ads in home computing magazines.

9. Produce a series of low cost audio cassettes which help school pupils revise for public examinations. You might give these cassettes a brand name like ‘Personal Revision Cassettes’. Get these cassettes stocked at newsagents and bookshops.

10. Set up a firm which publishes a monthly computer cassette program for home computer enthusiasts who want to improve their program writing skills (e.g. C++, html or web design). Each cassette might give ideas, examples and tips about how to become a better computer programmer.

11. Start a firm which organises educational holidays and weekend breaks for computing enthusiasts who want to further their programming skills. The courses might be held at a bed & breakfast house out of season. Advertise your holidays and breaks in computing magazines.

12. Design and publish diaries for each star sign. The special feature of these diaries is that a star reading is given for each day of the coming year. Have these diaries mounted in a special display rack. Get astrological shops to accept one of your racks.

13. Use luminous paint (the kind used on watches and alarm clocks) to highlight features on natural ornaments such as starfish, coral, colourful rocks, pine cones, etc. Place these ornaments in a UV illuminated display case to illustrate the luminosity. Get these cases displayed at gift shops.

14. Start an enterprise which makes high quality, home-made paper. Sell the paper at a premium for use as: personal stationery, certificates, presentation scrolls, printing paper for manually operated printing presses etc.

15. Bring out a selection of lucky charms which are for hanging from the windscreens of cars, vans and lorries. The charms might be mini horseshoes, rabbits’ feet, wooden or plastic number sevens, four leaf clovers, etc. Package your charms and distribute to a wide range of retailers.

16. Begin a business which manufactures kits for making mosaics. Each kit has a pre-designed mosaic and people have to complete it like a jigsaw puzzle. Use ads in craft magazines to sell the kits by mail order.

17. Set up an enterprise which sells greenhouses door to door. Buy the greenhouses from manufacturers at trade prices. Produce sales literature and recruit sales people to sell the greenhouses for you.

18. Start a postal business which rents out war gaming model soldiers and other accessories. War gaming enthusiasts around the nation can use this service to play war games of any size from any period of history.

19. If you have a spare room, take in a lodger, or start a small scale bed and breakfast business. If you choose the latter, either place a sign outside your house which reads ‘Bed and Breakfast’, ‘Vacancies’, or advertise in the window of a main newsagent. Currently you can earn a useful tax-free sum from this method.

20. Make money from anatomical charts. Use the charts to: 1) make stylish framed prints; 2) make unusual designs for T-shirts; 3) decorate household products such as wastepaper bins and lampshades; 4) make decorative or educational posters; or 5) make a collection of educational slides.

21. Make decorations for wine bottles. Each decoration is slipped over the neck of a bottle. These decorations are either wood carved or metal engraved with the name of a restaurant or family. Or make floral decorations: the scent of the flowers complementing the bouquet of the wine.

22. Start a craft business which makes unusual table lamps. Each table lamp might feature a stand made of a conch shell or Victorian bottle. If you hit upon a design which is popular, and there are no problems with obtaining raw materials, this can become a full time business.

23. Take up the craft of jewellery making and as soon as you acquire a basic skill, start selling what you make. Begin by sending for a catalogue issued by a mail order jewellery making supplier.

24. Start a mail order firm which sells equipment and supplies to weavers and spinners. An important market for your products will be those taking up weaving and spinning for the first time. Place ads in craft magazines which are directed at this group.

25. Produce souvenir children’s height charts which feature postcard type views of local scenery. Or make souvenir suntan charts. These suntan charts have the complete range of skin shades. A holiday maker buys a suntan chart to make a ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparison.

26. Put together a postal course which teaches people how to cut silhouettes. The course might include instruction on how to cut all kinds of silhouettes such as landscapes, animals and people. These silhouettes can be framed or mounted to make attractive wall hangings.

27. Start a venture which organises courses about how to build your own house extension or loft conversion. Hold the courses during the weekends at the construction site of an extension or conversion. Or a bed and breakfast house could be hired out of season for a week long course.

There are many different types of television that you can buy online and the most popular is the LCD television. If you have another service like Sky then this is not so important but it is very useful if you will be using the built-in tuner as your main source of television channels.

The last thing to think about is the quality of the sound that the TV can produce although we seriously recommend a home cinema system if you want the best sound. Home cinema systems offer surround sound and a very high quality of sound with strong bass as most have a subwoofer but some TVs can also produce a good sound with virtual surround sound although it will still get nowhere near a good home theatre system. The Sun waits patiently in the Time exchange zone to commence the morning shift, a duty he had assiduously discharged from time immemorial. He looks at the Time judge, clothed with the garment of precision and wealth of experience. An unbiased umpire, (in the competitive regulation reign between the Sun and his colleague the ‘Darkness’) saddled with the responsibility of raising the green flag to approve of the Sun’s ascension.

“Not yet”, his gentle eyes convey the message, unwilling to face the risk of a query from the Creator for his ill- timed decision. The Sun warms up one last time, to get on to Life’s field of play, enthusiasm getting the better part of him. He senses his time has come, and moves closer to the touch line, eyes on the umpire waiting for the signal to lift off. After a couple of seemingly stretchy seconds, he recognizes the ritualistic smile dangling at the corners of the umpire’s mouth, who calculatively raises the green flag on the dot of the approved hour.

The Sun nods in appreciation and begins the gradual ascension process. The Darkness in compliance with the regulated natural laws, starts the retraction process, slowly folding up his blanket stretched self from the sky. The chord of envy strikes within the heart of the Darkness as it glares menacingly at the rising Sun. The “Early missionary cemetery”, the “first well” built by the missionaries can also be found in the land’s historic tourism data base. The throne of the Nigerian Movie Industry (Nollywood) is located in Lagos, which has become the second largest movie producing Industry in the world as at 2009 and a good number of the stars(actors, actresses, directors, film makers, producers and others) live and work in Lagos.

“The National Theatre” Iganmu , a magnificent architectural masterpiece, plays host to remarkable theatrical performances and other entertainment inclined events. The beautiful sights and sounds ably projected by the zillion dazzling lights from the residential and non-residential buildings, street lights, invokes a mesmerizing effect on passers by who constantly reel out words of admiration at the breath taking sight.

The Executive Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola SAN, is driven by the passion to transform Lagos into a “Mega city”, no doubt a herculean task, but one he’s set his heart to accomplish and certainly will. The state is indeed the “Centre of Excellence” and proudly runs with the Tourism flag ahead of its counterparts. I have a 32" magnavox LCD tv and I just bought an RCA rt2770 Home Theatre system and I have no idea how to set up the system to play the sounds from the tv through the system. Same with an xbox to the system.

Depends on the inputs & outputs you have on both. You should have optical audio on both. Buy an optical audio cable and connect it from the TV optical audio Out to the optical audio IN to the receiver. Connect the xbox to the tv.
If you have HDMI connections then use those instead.
